Hello! Welcome back or welcome for the first time! I last raced in early September, so it was nice to get my feet wet again.
As you may have noticed in my training, I have continued my running as always, with some bike work, less swimming, and more weight/strength training as I wanted to build back some muscle-mass over the winter season—primarily a personal choice, as well as switching up my training to keep it fresh.
That said, I will continue to post hybrid training, which helps you cross the finish line and keep your strength as well.
Now for the race recap.
05/07/2023 – perfect 70-degree morning for the race.
Leading into the race, I felt relaxed. My speed was slower, although I felt fresh.
Start of the 5k – I came out first and settled into a 6:00 min per mile pace. Being a 5k, I knew I would have to hold the speed from start to finish.
I continued to feel fresh by mile 2. Seeing I was in the lead with a 6:20 mile pace, I settled and comfortably held the pace until the end of the race.
I finished the race 1st overall with a 20:02 time. Official results

Final thoughts
Seeing this wasn’t my fastest 5k didn’t phase me much because I aimed to gain additional muscle mass. I will continue to lift during the race season and work more on my speed again. Goals will be to reach back to the 18-minute 5k timeframe.
I am pleased with the results and glad I was able to take 1st place still overall 🙂
